Have you seen these giant red flowers in bloom in Hong Kong? A fashion illustration inspired by Hong Kong culture and its floral and fauna.
This is the 木棉花, the tree's scientific name is Bombax ceiba, or more commonly the kapok or cotton wood tree in Cantonese.
See below for the culture significance of this bloom. Traditionally, it is used to make cooling herbal teas, and as the flowers bloom and turn into seed pods, people used to harvest the fluffy cotton like substance that grew and make pillows out of them!
